US Time Zones and Daylight Saving Time (2026–2027)

The six main US time zones and exactly when the clocks change in 2026 and 2027.

The mainland US spans four time zones, and Alaska and Hawaii add two more. Most of the country also moves its clocks forward an hour in spring and back an hour in fall. Here is everything you need to know.

Alaska (AKT)AnchorageUTC−9UTC−8
Hawaii (HST)Honolulu (no DST)UTC−10UTC−10

Each zone is one hour behind the one to its east. When it is 12:00 PM in New York, it is 11:00 AM in Chicago, 10:00 AM in Denver and 9:00 AM in Los Angeles.

Daylight saving time dates

  • 2026: started Sunday, March 8 and ended Sunday, November 1, 2026.
  • 2027: starts Sunday, March 14 and ends Sunday, November 7, 2027.

Clocks spring forward at 2:00 AM local time in March (2:00 AM becomes 3:00 AM) and fall back at 2:00 AM in November (2:00 AM becomes 1:00 AM again). Arizona (except the Navajo Nation) and Hawaii do not change their clocks.

Why this matters when you add hours

On the night the clocks change, a day is 23 or 25 hours long. So “24 hours from now” can land at a different clock time than you expect. For example, at 6:00 PM on Saturday, November 6, 2027 in New York, 24 hours from now is 5:00 PM on Sunday, not 6:00 PM, because the clocks fall back overnight.

Our calculator counts real elapsed time and then shows the clock time in the zone you pick, so these changes are always handled correctly.
